Checked Stripes was handwoven on a simple frame loom. It’s part of an ongoing exploration of stripes and checkered patterns using the woven grid structure.

I seek predictability and love repetition in my life and find a comfort in weaving these simple patterns. This piece is actually a small portion of what was supposed to be a larger tapestry. The project took a turn I wasn't expecting (and also got left on the loom for a year...) Instead of fully abandoning it, I decided to scrap it for parts and the parts are pretty! 

Woven dimensions: 6” circle 

Framed dimensions: 8.75” square

Materials: cotton, wool/flax blend, rayon chenille, metallic gold; birch plywood frame
